Calgary Single-Use Plastics
What is happening?
For many years I have seen plastic bags being emptied into our ecosystem at landfill sights. It is disgusting to see, so I approached the City Council for their response regarding how it has been written into, our bylaws. It says that this plastic is recyclable
The bylaw needs to change and to indicate that these are not recyclable items. Council talks about this subject but does not walk the talk. The Federal government has mandated that single-use plastic items will be banned [all] across Canada by the end of 2021. Our city should be moving towards developing a bylaw to ban these items from being distributed in our city.
What should be happening?
How are we going to make that happen?
I will put forward to City Council that Calgary should lead the way for the province to ban all single-use plastics starting with plastics packaging used for food, convenience, and hardware stores. I have already been actively working with an independent Canadian business located in Alberta, that has developed a non-toxic, biodegradable, recyclable product. This product will fill the void and provide an economical solution for retailers of food, convenience, and hardware stores when plastic packaging items are banned. Should you decide to vote me into the public office I would be introducing this business group to our city.
